In a nutshell:
-expert coffee shop with a scandi, minimalist feel
-superb home-made cakes
-great for hang outs, solo coffee-going and meetings
This place is a real gem in Bridlington. It was set up by Oakley Wheelwright who saw a gap in the market for a speciality coffee shop in Bridlington – and this delivers on all accounts. He runs the place with impeccably high standards and with an obvious taste for quality – from the minimalist modern design, to the mouth-watering food menu, to the coffee itself. Every detail has a personal stamp on it, making it a fine example of how to make the most of an independent coffee shop. Oakley is experienced in the coffee industry, having worked at La Bottega Milanese and Laynes Espresso in Leeds (two powerhouses in the North of England) and two years ago he brought his expertise and modern taste to Bridlington in the form of North Man Coffee.

Feel free to lounge around and watch the world go by, or come here with friends or for meetings. It is quite small, so gets busy on weekends, but in the weekdays you’d be more than fine finding a table for a group of you. The vibe is welcoming and friendly – many customers are locals and know the staff, and you’ll probably find yourself talking to someone new while you’re there.
The coffee:
The coffee they use here is Square Mile. I’m rarely disappointed by their coffee. Here they change the blend on a weekly basis and it’s always good. Whichever staff member made the coffee (I was here a lot this week) it was a solid cup: perfectly balanced, great temperature and lovely latte art. I would say the latte is quite milky and mellow, so upgrade to a flat white if you want a bit more of a punch.
The food:
The food is impeccable. Brunch options range from shaksuka to a brunch bagel to avocado on toast, and there are lunch options too (note that the kitchen closes at 3pm most days, so get in early to avoid disappointment). And if you miss the kitchen, well then, have cake! They are made by Oakley’s mum and the range of cakes had all my friends obsessed. From banana bread to ginger cake, to hearty flapjacks – even now, I’m still thinking about them. We tried the whole range between us and went back every day. They were sublime.
“Oakley has really put a firm, modern, classy stamp on Bridlington High Street, and it sticks out like a jewel”
All in all, you really can’t go wrong coming here. In fact, I’d be as bold to say you’d be stupid not to come. After a gentle stroll along the beach, come and cosy up in the warm atmosphere of North Man Coffee with a coffee and cake…making it a great day out in Bridlington. Oakley has really put a firm, modern, classy stamp on Bridlington High Street, and it sticks out like a jewel.
